Latics manager Paul Jewell said that he could have two new players on board in time for the Premiership game against Middlesbrough on Saturday.
They are not the players that were targeted previously when Jewell said that the two sides were too far apart to carry on negotiations.
It’s possible that one or both could be loan signings with an option of a permanent move later if things work out.
