Benfica defender Marco Zoro is fencing for a move to Wigan Athletic in summer having been close to being Steve Bruces last signing in January.
The Ivory Coast international is looking to gain regular first team football in order to keep his place in the national side, something that isn`t happening for him at Benfica and he spent 5 days on trial at Blackburn in January
Sky Sports reports that ‘Wigan boss Steve Bruce was also close to securing the services of the defender before the winter window slammed shut, with the Latics believed to be keen to resurrect their interest at the end of the season.`
Zoro himself says he wants to move to England and he is keen to show just what he can do, he told reporters:
‘I am very interested in playing in the Premier League
‘I am not playing much at Benfica, but I will fight to earn my place back and then see what happens in the summer.
‘The next year is very important. I need to get in the national squad for the 2010 World Cup, as that tournament will be very important to my career.
‘If I don’t play the national manager will not call me, so I have to play.’
