Wigan Athletic centre-back Sam Stubbs has returned to the club after completing his six-month loan spell at League Two side Crewe Alexandra.

The 19-year-old made eight appearances in all competitions for Crewe and returns to Wigan with league experience under his belt.

Stubbs was an unused substitute during the Alex’s 2-0 home victory over Grimsby Town on New Year’s Day.

Following the game, Crewe manager David Artell confirmed the Latics academy graduate would return to the DW Stadium.
