The tricky midfielder admits his focus was more on his commitments to Australia’s World CUp bid. But, in only his second start of the season, Skoko put in a fantastic display and earned glowing praise from his manager Paul Jewell.

He told Sky Sports: ‘My chances have been few and far between, but i’m just happy i came through without getting injured for a change, especially after what happened against Manchester City.’

Skoko also believes he is benefittiing fomr not having to worry about Australia compared to last season: ‘Last season i suffered with my commitments to Australia. I was away a lot at the start of the season.’

‘I’m more comfortable and i’ve settled in, and now i am gettting a go in the team as well, things are coming together.
