Wigan Athletic midfield man Shaun Maloney made the starting eleven for the first time since his summer move from Celtic, when the Latics faced League 2 side Swindon Town in the FA cup on Saturday

Unfortunately for the Latics and Maloney the game was lost and the diminutive Scotsman also suffered an injury, limping off in the 77 minute with a sore calf and dented pride.

It appears though that the injury isn`t too bad and Latics boss Roberto Martinez reckons Maloney will soon be fit to fight for a spot in the team, Martinez told the clubs official website:‘Shaun has picked up a soft-tissue problem that we will assess, but it doesn’t look too serious which is good news.

‘We’ll know more over the next 24 hours but I think he’ll be okay.’
