The former Brann Bergen player believes the Austrian FA may try and force him out of international retirement despite his decision to quit the national set-up last month.

The 26-year-old criticised his countries FA, labelling them ‘unprofessional’ after a spat with Austrian national coach Josef Hickersberger, and made his decision to retire afterwards.

Scharner fell out with his national FA after they claimed the midfielder, who can also play in defence, requested he be able to pick and choose his games to aid his career at Wigan.

Despite his decision, Scharner could yet be called up for his countries friendly games next month, away to Liechtenstein and home to Switzerland.

The defender is worried that Fifa will hand him a four gaem domestic suspension if he refuses the call-up.
