Rob’s Prediction: Wigan v Ipswich

I think we can all agree that Wigan did themselves proud against Zulte Waregem in their first ever European game, even if we did ride our luck in the second half. Had McArthur’s venomous strike hit the net, we’d be talking about a wonderful win, but we can’t have it all and a point is a good return for the Latics.

Back to the championship today and Wigan take on an Ipswich side who have only really tasted success at Portman Road this season though they have been a little unlucky away from home in some ways, definitely considering their narrow 1-0 loss at QPR, so this will not be a walk in the park for Owen Coyle’s men by any stretch of the imagination.

Adding impetus to the attack will hopefully be the returning Shaun Maloney, who was rested by Owen Coyle and did not feature in Belgium against Zulte Waregem. He will definitely add some bite to the attack today.

With the continued absence of striker Grant Holt, I expect a team much like the one below.

Powell, Fortune, Beausejour, McArthur, Gomez, McLean, Crainey, Perch, Rogne, Boyce.

Ipswich have not enjoyed recent visits to the DW Stadium so I am going to go for the home side to win this encounter and keep pace with the teams in the top of the championship with a slender home win.

Rob’s Prediction: Wigan Athletic 1-0 Ipswich Town
