Rob’s Prediction: Watford v Wigan

Wigan Athletic picked up a creditable 2-0 home win last time out against Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich team. Despite not being at their best, due to an away game against Zulte Waregem, they managed to claim the win and move up the table as a result.

However, today poses another tricky away day for the Latics as they travel to Watford FC to try and cure their away day blues. Having not scored a single goal since their 4-0 beating of Barnsley on the opening day of the season, this is a good opportunity to put some points on the board, at a venue that has been kind to the Latics in recent times. Indeed, Wigan have picked up a few draws against Watford in their last few meetings at Vicarage Road.

Good news for Wigan is Marc Antoine Fortune is expected to come back into the starting line up, but it seems this might be a game too soon for striker Grant Holt, who is still expected to return to the starting line up soon.

As Watford’s poor home form against Wigan could be a decisive factor, I am going to tip Owen Coyle’s men to improve slightly on their last two dismal away day blues and pick up a valuable point as they look to climb the table – the Latics are not known for winning back-to-back games very often which is why I am tipping them for an important point at Watford, one which will certainly be rewarding. With the return of Fortune and hopefully, his inclusion in the side, I think this could be a difficult afternoon for both sides, who are looking to set right disappointing midweek results.
