Rob’s Prediction: Sunderland V Wigan

Wigan Athletic fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Fulham last weekend, the only bright spark being an Arouna Kone goal which made it 2-1 in the dying moments, but unfortunately, wasn’t enough to salvage a point against a hard-working Fulham side.

However, that disappointing result was followed up with a deeply satisfying away win over West Ham in which Mauro Boselli was very good. It was also good to see Ivan Ramis and Jordi Gomez on the scoresheet, Ramis’ goal being the pick of all of the goals with a super strike into the corner.

Sunderland are in semi-decent form at the moment and despite not winning games, which they must try to do, they remain without a win in twelve games, something which will worry Martin O’Neill. Wigan’s record at the Stadium Of Light is more than decent and Sunderland will need to be at their very best to stop the Latics.

Franco Di Santo and Antolin Alcaraz are doubtful for tomorrow’s clash at the stadium and should Wigan win this game, any premature comments about being involved in a relegation battle will be put to bed, all being well.

Sunderland 2 Wigan 2

Wigan should come out of this game with a draw in my opinion, but with a still somewhat leaky defence, this could be a match full of goals and lots of entertainment. A repeat of a last minute winner for Wigan would be a welcome Saturday evening treat. However, I see this ending in a draw which would represent a good result for the lads.

Rob’s Other Predictions
========================

Arsenal V Chelsea – Chelsea have a good record on this ground but Arsenal will be a tough nut to crack at home. 2-2

Everton V Southampton – Southampton will be buoyed by their good win over Aston Villa and Everton’s run came to an end at Leeds. The impetus might be with Southampton in this game. 0-1

Fulham V Man City No Berbatov? Man City, on their day, can rip any team apart. I think that Fulham will find this too much, despite their recent result against Wigan. 0-4

Norwich V Liverpool – Norwich had a good 1-0 win over Doncaster earlier in the week but Liverpool are a different breed than Doncaster. Norwich are still without a home win but Liverpool are yet to win this season. Has draw written all over it. 1-1

Reading V Newcastle – Reading won against QPR in mid-week and Newcastle lost – I believe the impetus might be with the home side here. 1-0

Stoke V Swansea – The bottom has fallen out of the Swans – losing to Everton and Aston Villa will raise some alarming questions and a loss at Stoke could do little more for confidence. 2-1

Man Utd V Tottenham – Old Trafford is a fortress and hardly any teams make it out with any pride or satisfaction as results are nearly impossible to come by at this stadium. Unless its your lucky day, but not for Spurs. 3-0

Aston Villa V West Brom – I think this is a tough game for Villa, who have had a difficult season despite their magnificent win at the Etihad. However the Premier League is not the cup and its a different kettle of fish. Tough to call but I think it’ll be a draw. 1-1

QPR V West Ham – QPR haven’t had a great start to the season – this will be a tight game and I think QPR’s miserable run might continue with a narrow defeat to the Hammers. 0-1

See you next time for Rob’s prediction! Apologies for not doing them in the last few weeks as I’ve been busy.
