Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has spoken about his decision to stay at the Latics rather than talk to Aston Villa about becoming their new boss, agreeing to sign a new three year deal at the DW Stadium this afternoon Martinez said he will only move on when the club is ready for a new manager.
Martinez also said that the job he started at the Latics isn`t finished yet and that there is still much work to be done, he also said that he wants to repay chairman Dave Whelan`s loyalty and support
After agreeing the deal Martinez said: “Over the last two years the Chairman has been very supportive to me and loyal, and now I feel I need to be loyal and supportive back to him.
“I haven`t finished my job at Wigan Athletic; there is much work still to be done, I don`t know how long that will take but such is the belief that I have always had that I would only ever decide to move once the club is ready for a new Manager.”
Chief Executive Jonathan Jackson has added:
“We are delighted that Roberto will be continuing the hard work he and his staff started back in 2009, and as a club we are all looking forward with excitement to our seventh season in the Barclays Premier League.
“We at Wigan Athletic; the staff, players and fans, all have a role to play in continuing the progression and growth of our club, and having Roberto at the heart of that process is hugely important.”
