Richard O’Donnell has made his loan move from the Latics to Championship club Bristol City a permanent one after the two clubs agreed terms on an undisclosed fee for the former League 1 goalkeeper of the season.

27 year old O’Donnell made just 12 appearances for the Latics after he joined in the summer, he was considered a bit of a coup signing at the time, but after a shaky start to his career at the DW Stadium he lost his place to the experienced Jussi Jääskeläinen and, apart from a disastrous FA cup game at Bury where he conceded four goals, he never got back into the first team and recently even lost his place on the bench to Lee Nicholls.

Sometimes it just doesn’t work out for players at certain clubs, a run in the first team down at Ashton Gate may see O’Donnell regain his confidence and status as a very good goalkeeper.
