Former Wigan Athletic player Paul Scharner appears that he just can`t let go and he is still commenting on the Latics even though he has joined Premier League rivals West Brom.

Never afraid to speak his mind Scharner reckons that the Latics are prime candidates for relegation and also that club owner Dave Whelan has had enough and wants to start trimming the squad to cut back on the budget, I think Scharns has been reading one too many Latics fans sites!

The Daily Star has the Austria international quoted as saying that he had a fantastic relationship with Whelan and that the Latics only let him go so as to save on the wage bill and now all the goals of the club have been met its relegation time, you get the feeling that Scharner is insinuating that Whelan has given up, now where have I heard that before, hmm?

The Star quote Scharner as saying: “I had a great relationship with the chairman but he was right to let me go because he had to cut the wage bill. He`s done a great job with Wigan – six years in the Premier League is unbelievable for a club like that.

“Now, I think it`s about saving money. That`s the plan of Mr Whelan, to cut the budget.

“His dream was to bring up a club into the Premier League and be talked about all over the world. That target has been reached now and I don`t think there is another target for him to go for.”

‘ Didn’t expect those sort of comments from Paul to be honest – is it just me or does he seem to be completely making it up? I mean Wigan did not release him to cut the wage bill, Scharner made it very clear he wanted to leave and so Wigan gave him his wish’

Scharner goes on to say that he feels that the Baggies have the more experienced squad of the two clubs and that Latics boss Roberto Martinez has brought in 50 players, yes 50, since last year.

Scharner continued: “We have more experience, while Wigan don`t have enough this time.

“I hope I am wrong and that we both stay up. But it`s going to be very tough for Wigan because Martinez has brought in 50 new players since last year.”

He always did have the knack of putting his foot in his move but still a good character and he did have the word THANX shaved into his hair in his last game at the DW Stadium, a nice parting gesture to the fans, he should have left it at that though.
