Two adventurous lads from Manchester have had the idea to compete in this years Mongolia Rally and drive from Manchester to Ulanbaatar in Mongolia and hopefully raise lots of money for Mongolian charities and their chosen UK based charity.

Stephen Elliot and Paul King have bought a Mitsubishi Pajero for £700 and they will fund the trip mainly themselves

When asked about the car the lads told us:

“Its a 1990 Mitsubishi Pajero 2.5TD so its quite old has been around the block a few times but we are confident it will get us there…maybe!

“We bought the car from Harry’s Booze & Food shop in Stockport. Just the name gave us doubts, but when a 16 year old lad came out of the shop with the keys and a 12 Month MOT certificate we knew everything was legit and immediately handed over the cash.”

“We are going to get it serviced and hopefully get 4 new off-road tyres put on – possibly for free if we can find some generous sponsors! Also, each business that sponsors us will be able to add their logo to our car decor. Hopefully it will be covered before we go!”

The UK charity that the lads are supporting is ‘Manchester Kids` and it is a grant giving charity, raising funds to support voluntary and charitable projects who work directly with disadvantaged children.

They are also donating to Save the Children UK who currently have projects in Mongolia with the main focus of their work on long-term development, but in 2000 they launched an emergency programme to bring food and other aid to families in crisis during the harsh winter. Maintaining emergency preparedness is now an ongoing part of their work in Mongolia.

They are running an auction to help raise money for the charities and the Latics have donated a shirt signed by the players and ready framed for hanging on your wall.
