No KC Sunshine For The Latics

Latics got caught twice in a game that they completely dominated and ended up losing.

Two goals that could and should have been stopped gave Hull all the points and left the Latics with nothing as they headed back across the Pennines.

The man with the longest name in the world Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink scored on the hour and Geovanni knocked home the 2nd eight minutes later.

Vennegoor of Hesselink rose to head home a corner passed Kirkland at his near post, if Latics had placed a man on the near post quite simply the ball wouldn`t have gone in and a totally avoidable goal was conceded.

Geovanni`s goal was in part to blame on some atrocious passing and then none existent marking.

Emerson Boyce playing the ball out from defence hit an under weighted pass in the direction of Jason Scotland but the ball was easily picked up by Hull midfield man Zayatte who carried his run in to the Latics penalty area and round a stationary Boyce to cross to the back post for an unmarked Geovanni to side foot past a stranded Kirkland. Melchiot failed to track the Brazilian`s run and was left stranded on the edge of the area.

The disappointing aspects of both these goals were that they were down to mistakes rather than the craft of the opposition, the Latics had totally dominated the first half and there were lengthy spells when Hull simply couldn`t get possession of the ball and there was an eerie silence amongst the home fans.

Hull had started the game brightly for the first five minutes but then we slowed the game right down to take the sting out of it and though not many chances were created the Latics did have the better.

The 2nd half started exactly like the first had finished with Latics playing possession football, creating a couple of chances but then disaster struck with the two Hull goals and suddenly we were asked to chase the game.

Scharner, who to be fair seemed a little out of sorts, was replaced with Gomez and N`Zogbia was switched to the left, with time running out Martinez sent on Sinclair for N`Zogbia and King for Thomas

Latics got a goal back on 87 minutes when Sinclair was the quickest to react following Hull keeper Myhill clawing the ball from under his bar and the young forward headed into the net, the fourth official signalled five minutes of add on time and Latics pulses were racing as they went in search of an equaliser.

At the death Gomez carried the ball into the area and with two unmarked Latics players to his right he decided to dive to try and win a penalty, quite rightly booked for such an atrocious attempt


Following on from last weeks superb win against Chelsea a defeat away at lowly Hull was only to be expected wasn`t it?
