Rumours are circulating that the Latics have tied up a deal with Manchester United for the return to the DW Stadium of young striker Nick Powell for a second season long loan.
The 20 year old finished as Latics leading scorer last campaign despite missing a large chunk of the season with injury and loss of form, boss Uwe Rösler commented that Powell was one of ‘the most talented players that he’d ever worked with’ and made no secret about the fact that he’d like him back this season.
With Latics losing out on striking targets this summer and Powell unable to force his way into United’s new boss Louis van Gaal’s immediate plans, this is a logical step for the former Crewe man to come back to a club where he’s enjoyed success to keep his career on track.
The Powell deal could be announced early next week, though there is plenty of time to iron out the finer details as the loan market for Championship clubs opens up once the transfer window shuts.
