Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney may have been causing a few headlines this past week, first off with his hat-trick against West Ham that was marred by his swearing down a TV camera lens, the subsequent two match ban that followed after the FA charged him over the incident, then he went and scored the winner in the Champions League quarter-finals in United`s 1-0 win at Chelsea.
But, talking about Chelsea, obviously our next league opponents, I noticed that one of their summer targets, young Brazil international, Neymar, has made a few headlines of his own this week.
Playing for his club Santos in their Copa Libertadores 3-2 win over Colo Colo of Chile on Wednesday, Neymar was sent off for wearing a mask in a goal celebration.
The 19 year old scored a fantastic solo effort to put Santos 3-0 up on the night, he ran around the back of the goal celebrating and emerged wearing a mask of his own face, which he had on upside down, the referee subsequently booked Neymar and, because it was his second booking of the game, he sent him off.
The masks were given out at the Vila Belmiro stadium by Neymar’s sponsors. Santo manager Marcelo Martelotte commented: ‘Neymar was sent off for not knowing the rules… we need to know the rules’
Just so Saturdays ref Howard Webb knows, Gary Caldwell`s face naturally looks upside down, it`s not a mask, don`t go booking him.
