Wigan Athletics midfield man Momo Diame is set to make a return to the team for Sunday’s clash with Wolves, the Senegal international looked to have suffered a serious injury when Fulham midfield hatchet man Steve Sidwell cleaned him out in the 12th minute of last Saturday’s game.
Surprisingly super efficient referee Mike Jones didn’t even deem the challenge worthy of a free kick never mind a red card, which should have been the punishment issued to Sidwell for such a deliberate act.
Latics boss Roberto Martinez was left incensed by the challenge but he was a relieved man this week when the news came that his star player was set to be fine for Sundays important clash at Molineux.
Speaking to the Latics official site Martinez said:‘There was a feeling of relief yesterday (Monday) when we got the feedback from Momo’s injury’
‘When we saw the footage and the images after the game we all feared the worst, but he’s been a very fortunate man that when Steve Sidwell makes the challenge Momo’s foot is off the ground otherwise it would have been a certain broken leg.
‘The damage he did suffer in the ankle ligaments has recovered very well and we hope that he’ll resume training with the group before Sunday and he’s got a chance of making the team.’
