Latics entertain Derby County at the DW Stadium on Saturday, the referee for the game is Wakefield official Andy Madley.

Andy, who is the elder brother of Select Group 1 ref Bobby Madley, will be taking charge of only his fourth Latics game, he had us twice last campaign, Blackpool in the JPT at the DW last December, we won that game 4-0, he was also in charge of our 3-0 League 1 victory over Scunthorpe United last August, again at the DW Stadium, a bit if a pattern there, hopefully to continue on Saturday.

His only other Latics game was our 1-0 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road in the 2013/14 campaign. He has ref’d Derby once this season, a 1-2 home defeat to Blackburn, well I never, last campaign he had the Rams twice, a goalless draw away at Bolton in August 2015 and a 4-2 home win over Wolves in October.

Madley is part of the new Select Group 2 refs, regarded as a real ‘up and comer’, noted for refereeing with a smile and at just 32 years of age time is very much on his side to follow brother Bobby all the way to the top in the referee world.

We have the customary stats and Si’s off the terrace report, then the debate about just where we are at the moment under Warren Joyce.

Derby are in town on Saturday, the Rams, along with ourselves, are the divisions low scorers, so will we be in for a goal fest? The panel seem to think not.
