Wigan Athletic have officially announced that striker Mauro Boselli has finally joined Serie A club Genoa this lunch time

The Latics have held back on the officially announcing the news until all the paper work had been completed and the players registration had gone through to Genoa, Boselli has a small tear in his hamstring and at one point it appeared that this could have proved a stumbling block

The 25-year-old has made 12 league appearances for Latics with a further four Carling Cup appearances, scoring one goal, following his move from Argentine team Estudiantes last summer.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez said on the loan deal ‘I have always said we are lucky to have a player of Mauro’s quality at our club but he needs this opportunity to play because at the moment he cannot be the player he has been at Estudiantes over the past two seasons.

‘At the moment he is not in a position where he can help the squad, and I am confident he will come back a better and stronger player after his stay in Italy. We wish him all the best over there and will be monitoring his progress weekly.’

With Boselli gone there is now room for a striker to be brought in on loan from abroad and the strong rumours coming out of the club are that Chile and Monterrey forward Humberto Suazo could be about to join, until the end of the season at least
