Following his first signing as Wigan Athletic manager with the capture of Jordi Gomez from Spanish club Espanyol, Roberto Martinez says he wants to bring in players of real quality as he re-shapes the team in his own style.

Gomez starred for Martinez whilst on loan last season at Championship side Swansea and he is a player that he knows all about and wants to add to after acknowledging that the Latics are a little thin on the ground in terms of 1st team players.

With three more players being actively pursued and ‘other` areas of the team that Roberto wants to strengthen it should be an interesting few weeks as the transfer activity intensifies.

Martinez told the press:‘We are a little light in numbers and I want to press ahead and bring in some real quality.’
