Wigan Athletic travelled the 15 miles up the M6 to Preston yesterday and beat North End 3-1 in a preseason friendly that left Latics boss Roberto Martinez well satisfied.

Speaking to Latics Player after the game Martinez signalled out both Victor Moses and Roman Golobart for special praise. The two youngsters had good games, Moses we already know all about but it was great to see 19 year old Golobart, he looked commanding at the back for the Latics, a towering centre half and he can play a bit too.

Let’s see what Martinez made of it all, the boss said: “You have to be satisfied when you get through the exercise with no injuries and everyone gets a very good workout”

“Preston were competitive and we had to match that which I felt we did throughout the game”

“There are many things that collectively we still need to work on, but individually games like this help to get you as sharp as you can be.”

“Victor (Moses) is still a very young man and we all know how talented he is, we need to allow him to keep enjoying his football because it’s quite clear when he does enjoy his football he can create problems for the opposition”

“We took him off because he picked up a little knock, we want him to recover well so that he can continue working in the manner that he did today”

“Roman Golobart didn’t look out of place when he came on, he is ready, he’s only 19 and it`s down to Graham Barrow, Dennis Lawrence and Dave Watson and the great work that they’ve been doing these past three years and it`s great to see the end product”
