Martinez in an interview with a Glasgow newspaper is quoted as saying ,’it is one of Europe’s top jobs.’
Swansea have so far resisted Celtic’s overtures but with a £1.2 million release clause apparently in his contract, Celtic may get their man.
It would also appear that a major re-structure at Wigan may be needed, with Steve Bruce wanting to take all his backroom staff to Sunderland leaving only John Benson at the JJB.
It is not clear whether the compensation agreed includes the backroom staff but if not another battle for recompense appears likely.
Wigan will need to move quickly to bring in a replacement, so that there is reasonable time to strengthen the squad.
