Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is a motivator extraordinaire according to Gabriele Marcotti of the Times following a little research by the Italian journalist into how teams perform at the start of each half.

Using a formula based around a sides overall goal difference and goal differences during the first 15 minutes of each half, calling this a swing, Marcotti concludes that there is evidence to suggest which Premier League managers are the better motivators.

All very complicated for my simple mind but I do like his conclusion for sitting right up at the top of motivators is our very own Roberto Martinez who according to Marcotti`s findings is in the top echelons of both the pre-match team talk and half time rally talk.

With a +27 swing at the beginning of a game and a +15 swing at the start of the second half Martinez` words ring clear in the heads of the Latics players, just the bits in between we need to sort out now.
