Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez blew his top last night and firmly laid the blame for the Latics loss at Ewood Park to Blackburn at the feet of the agent of Maynor Figueroa and an unnamed Premier League club for unsettling the popular left back.

Speaking to the press after the game Martinez revealed that the Latics had received two, what he described as insulting bids for Figueroa and then the players agent is believed to have instigated a rumour that the popular left back had gone on strike to get a move away from the DW Stadium.

The rumour of the strike hit the media yesterday and was heavily featured in the Daily Mail though because it was so ludicrously inaccurate we decided not to report the rumour here on Vital.

Although Martinez didn`t name the Premier League club who made the offers it is quite obvious who he was referring to and again he reiterated that Figueroa is going nowhere and not for sale.

Martinez says he isn`t unhappy he is disgusted and he revealed that the Latics are considering reporting the matter to the Premier League but he says that it will be difficult to prove.

Speaking to the press Martinez said: ‘In the window there is a lot of talk and speculation, and it is a great moment for the authorities to look into how much we need it’

‘We come into this game and one of my players has been surrounded by a lot of speculation and stories about him going away.

‘Unhappy is not the right word. I’m disgusted.

‘The authorities should look into the necessity of the window and the agents who have this power and unhealthy control in the game, with the backing of a Premier League club, and that’s disgusting.

‘It gives the opportunity to certain agents to have a big say in the game. The power is given to the wrong people.

‘We’ve had two insulting bids for the player, but he is not for sale. I’ve made it clear we’re not going to sell any of our best players.

‘If we’re going to sell a player it will be at the right time for the club to collect some money and to reinvest for the next level.’

Asked whether he will make a complaint to the Premier League, Martinez added: ‘I’m sure we can do.

‘We’re going to look into it, but it will be really hard to prove anything.’

Martinez was left in no doubt that all the speculation and an unsettling effect on Figueroa and was a major impact on the Latics losing the game, Martinez claimed that Figueroa was at fault for Niko Kalinic’s 76th-minute winner, he said: ‘Concentration in football is vital, and the game is hard enough when you’ve everything in place,’ added Martinez.

‘So when you’ve these sort of distractions they really cost the club points.

‘You look at the corner and the free header, and he (Kalinic) is Maynor’s man, and you can understand why he has been affected.’
