Latics boss Roberto Martinez spoke about the concern over Shaun Maloney who picked up a groin injury just before half-time on Saturday

The Scotland international looks set to be out for a while, which will come as a big blow, especially with the treatment room getting fuller by the day

Maloney had to be replaced at half-time and now the Latics squad is truly stretched to the limit, along with Maloney, Ivan Ramis suffered a hamstring tweak which forced him off after 49 minutes in the win over Reading, with Gary Caldwell and Antolin Alcaraz already out there is a bit of a crisis concerning the central defenders

Adrian Lopez came on for Ramis and did a good job on Saturday, Boyce also dropped into the back three with Ronnie Stam coming in at right wing back, but it is more of a makeshift looking defence than a first choice one

Speaking about the injuries that were picked up Latics boss Roberto Martinez said – ‘Shaun’s injury is worse than Ivan`s. He picked up a groin strain and although we’ll asses him it looks as though he’ll be out for a while.

‘With Ivan’s injury we managed to catch it just in time before it got worse. He felt a twinge in his hamstring and we’ll asses him to see how long he’ll be out for.

‘I have to say though that Adrian (Lopez) came in to replace him for his first league appearance of the season and showed all his professionalism.

‘You need to be ready at all times to help your team-mates and he was exactly that. In football you get out what you put in and that’s true with Adrian; he travels with the team for every game whether he is in the squad or not because he wants to be there to help and support and it was very pleasing to see how he performed today together with the other players who came in.’
