Wigan received an offer from Madrid for Valencia, from the then president Vincente Boluda as the then manager Juande Ramos was keen to sign English based players.

Current president Florentina Perez following the sensational capture of Kaka, is publically keen to sign Christiano Ronaldo.

Valencia’s agent has confirmed that no other bid has been made from Madrid since January.

This would appear to leave Manchester United in pole position, although their bid is viewed as tentative and will need to be firmed up before any talks are entered into.

Valencia, who two weeks ago declared himself happy at Wigan is now reported as saying that it is time he moves on with the catalyst for this change of heart ,being the move of Steve Bruce to Sunderland.

It appears that incoming manager Roberto Martinez, faces a busy summer trying to persuade vital players such as Bramble and Cattermole to remain with the club, whilst trying to attract new blood espicially up front.
