Liverpool V Latics – Preview

This is a vital weekend as the teams at the bottom jostle to avoid the dreaded drop into the Championship.

Emerson Boyce`s return must be a major boost for Jewell as he prepares to return to his first professional club and his boyhood favourites.

Boyce became a revelation this season following a slow start, he is many fans choice for player of the season and he was sorely missed after he broke two ribs in the game against Man City at the Eastland`s stadium.

Boyce told the Official website that he`s surprised himself with the speed of recovery and reckons he is at least two games ahead of schedule.

The Latics goal difference is better than all the teams below them and with Boycie back to bolster the defence, Jewell will be hoping that this remains the case.

Liverpool have lost only once at home this season in the Premiership and that was against 10 men Manchester United, in what many pundits claim was a fortunate win for the Manc`s.

So it won`t be an easy ride by any stretch of the imagination tomorrow, but, there is a glimmer of hope.

Liverpool face Chelsea on Wednesday in the Champions League semi-final, surely this is Benitez`s priority with a Champion League spot almost guaranteed for next season; he will more than likely rest some players.

With my fingers and legs crossed I am hoping that Gerrard, Carragher and Crouch will all be rested to the bench, at least, giving the Latics a chink of light.

Latics themselves have players unavailable, both Hall and Kirkland are out for the season, Antonio Valencia is still suspended and Lee McCulloch is definitely out of this one with his injured foot.

Mike Riley is the man in the middle and here`s hoping that there are no dodgy penalties against us.

Teams:
Liverpool (Possible) Reina, Arbeloa, Hyypia, Agger, Riise, Pennant, Sissoko, Gonzalez, Zenden, Kuyt, Fowler.

Latics (Probable) Filan, Boyce, DeZeeuw, Scharner, Baines, Taylor, Skoko, Landzaat, Kilbane, Heskey, Camara.

Prediction (Heart) 1-1, (Head) 2-0 to Liverpool.
