Wigan Athletic came away from Anfield yesterday with a point and a good performance under their belt.

Going into the game Roberto Martinez was talking of the Latics needing four wins and two draws from the remaining matches to achieve Premier League survival, if performances like this and last week`s against Blackburn continue then there shouldn`t be any trouble achieving that target.

The Latics looked composed early in the game and threatened in the 2nd minute when a Ben Watson corner caused problems for the home defence, Gary Caldwell found himself at the back post free with the ball at his feet but looked to have trouble gaining control; and the chance was lost.

Liverpool came into the game with Suarez looking lively but the opening goal came from man in form, Raul Meireles when he lashed home a volley from 16 yards on 24 minutes

The Latics pressed to get back into the game with N`Zogbia and Moses running at the Liverpool defence at every opportunity, the equaliser though when it did come was the first of the season for Steve Gohouri.

On 65 minutes Charles N`Zogbia`s delightful cross was flicked on by Antolin Alcaraz and the big Ivory Coast defender came thundering in at the far post to put the Latics back on level terms.

Both sides had further chances but a draw was a fair result on the reflection of play.
