Former Wigan Athletic midfield player Lee Cattermole returns to the club for the first time since last August when he followed former boss Steve Bruce up to Sunderland.
Cattermole was signed for the Latics by Bruce from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2008 after falling out of favour at the Riverside.
The ultra-competitive midfield enforcer was excellent at the Latics during his year with the club and quite a few Wigan fans felt let down when he decided to return to the North East as the England U21 international got his career back on track at the DW Stadium.
Cattermole though appears to have a fondness for the Latics and speaks with affection about his time in blue and white.
Speaking to the Sunderland official web site Cattermole said: ‘I have not been back there yet, but Wigan was a great club for me.
‘They were a great stepping stone in between Middlesbrough and here. Everyone at the club was brilliant, from the chairman down.
‘Obviously the manager and the staff came here. I loved my time there and I have a lot of respect for them.’
