Mark ‘Lawro’ Lawrenson has done his weekly round of forecasting the results of this weekend’s Premier League fixtures for the BBC, once again he’s picked the Latics to lose, let’s take a look at his reasons this time round:

Wigan v Stoke

Wigan are the hardest team to predict in the Premiership because after defeats they suddenly come up with performances.

I thought they gave Southampton a lesson last week in the art of finishing. They are more ruthless now.

A draw at a newly promoted team and against Arsenal represents a good start for Stoke, even though it is only two points. You know what you get with the Potters – they are difficult to beat and hard to play against.

It looks like Tony Pulis is trying to do some business before the window closes. You can see what he is trying to do – get better passing from midfield, get it in good areas out wide and then into the box for the likes of Peter Crouch and Jonathan Walters.

As the seasons go by, Pulis is getting better players in positions. They are evolving slowly.

Stoke don’t win many away from home but I think this might be one of them.

Prediction: 1-2

I was a bit worried about this, I thought Lawro may have predicted us to win and that is like putting a hex against our name, but I should have known better, Preston’s home boy just doesn’t like the Latics, phew!

2-1 Latics win, we are a good side, it just shows the extent of Lawro’s knowledge that he can’t recognise this
