Former Liverpool defender and current Match of the Day pundit Mark ‘Lawro` Lawrenson has done his round of predictions for the BBC and he is predicting that Saturday`s Premier League clash between Wigan Athletic and Manchester United at the DW STadium will end in an away win for United, let`s see what his reasons are:

Wigan v Man Utd

It seems there is an issue with Wigan’s pitch at the DW Stadium around this time every season and, now the rugby league has started as well, that is not going to make it any better.

The Latics have already started to re-lay it, but only parts of it so far, which might make things awkward for a Manchester United team used to playing on a lush green carpet at Old Trafford.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was not impressed by the pitch at Stade Velodrome for their draw with Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday, when their passing went a bit astray.

I was at that game and Marseille seemed more than happy for it to end 0-0. They set up their side not to be beaten, which made it more difficult for United to break them down. It wasn’t a bad result for them, or for United either.

That was the first of four away games on the spin for United and, after Saturday, they have got two tough ones coming up at Chelsea and Liverpool. Ferguson cannot afford to slip up here so I think he will play a very strong team to try to make sure of victory.

Prediction: 0-2

Already blaming the pitch just in case, I`ve heard it all now, the pitch was re-laid to aid us not United, I was worried about this game because of our past record of 12 straight defeats, but you know what, United aren`t anywhere near those previous sides this time round, 2-1 Latics win
