With a full round of midweek Premier League games Mark Lawrenson has done some forecasting for the BBC, he predicts that Wednesday’s clash between the Latics and Manchester City at the DW Stadium will end in an away win for City, why? Let’s take a look:
Wigan v Man City
The quality of Wigan’s goals against Reading on Saturday was outstanding and Roberto Martinez’s side seem comfortable playing with a three- or four-man defence, depending on which players they have available.
Manchester City picked up a point against Chelsea at the weekend but I thought they were stronger than Rafael Benitez’s side and the return of David Silva from injury makes a big difference for them in tight games.
City have power and strength to go with Silva’s guile and I think they will be too strong for Wigan.
The only thing I would say to counter that is that I don’t understand why Roberto Mancini is starting with Edin Dzeko up front.
Carlos Tevez would be my choice to partner Sergio Aguero – I don’t think Dzeko is of the same standard as those two.
In a team like City’s, Dzeko is a substitute, and he has shown how effective he is coming off the bench late in games when teams are tired.
He is great for that, because City can tweak their style and get the ball up to him quickly. But every time he starts, he labours.
This will be a tough game with all our injury woes, I’d love to say draw, so that’s what I’ll go for, 1-1
