It is understood that the hold up in the Marlon King to Hull City transfer is the fact that the player is asking for a severance payment due to him not asking for a transfer in the first place.

King, who only signed for Wigan Athletic in January from Watford, has agreed personal terms with Hull and the Latics have also accepted a fee but chairman Dave Whelan is apparently unwilling to give King any ‘golden handshake` to get him off the JJB payroll.

King is sitting tight and wants the pay-off due to the fact that he will take a wage cut if he goes to Hull so it is understandable from his point of view.

Earlier in the week Latics boss Steve Bruce hinted that there was a possibility that the deal would be called off and that Latics wouldn`t be held to ransom, he said:

“If the deal is not quite for him and the player isn’t sure in his own mind, it’s his prerogative to stay.’

‘It’s not happening at the moment, and if it’s not going to happen soon I will probably knock the deal on the head. It’s gone on long enough.’

So Marlon King will either have to accept a pay cut and no pay off or he will have to stay put at the JJB
