Wigan Athletic are waiting on the results of a specialist`s diagnosis of striker Franco Di Santo`s ankle injury that has been plaguing the Argentinean since mid-October.

The 21 year old former Chelsea player has been trying to struggle through the pain barrier but unfortunately it has got to the stage where he can`t even kick the ball anymore so the Latics backroom staff have organised a series of tests with a top London consultant to get to the bottom of the problem.

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post, Latics boss Roberto Martinez revealed: ‘We sent Franco to see the specialist and are now waiting for the full diagnosis’

‘He picked up the problem at Newcastle and has been struggling with it ever since.

‘We’ve been managing it carefully to make sure he has remained available, but the West Ham game last week was the final straw. It was just impossible for him to continue, impossible for him to even kick a ball.

‘It’s in a very deep part of his ankle, quite high up, which is making it difficult to tell what’s wrong. There’s nothing we can do until we get the specialist’s report back, because it could be two or three different things.’
