With the new season fixtures being released on Wednesday there are some dates to definitely look out for.

Obviously the opening and closing games of the season, the visit of the ‘big’ clubs, we will be renewing our acquaintances with both Newcastle United and Aston Villa, and the games over the festive period are always attractive, both home and away. One, or maybe two dates to keep your eye out for is the local derby games against Preston North End.

It is hoped that the fixture between the Latics and PNE will be ideal to organise a fundraising activity for Joseph’s Goal, this will either be a walk for the adventurous, or a bike ride for the more realistic athletes and fundraisers like myself!

The distance between the two grounds is roughly 20 miles dependent upon the route taken, a walk would take between six and seven hours, a bike ride roughly two, both decent enough challenges. Following on from the highly successful and extremely well attended walks to Bolton and rides to Blackpool over the past five years or so we now have new territories to explore with both the Wanderers and Blackpool being in lower divisions than ourselves.

So dig out your walking shoes, or slip on your lycra cycling shorts and get ready to challenge yourself for an excellent cause, further information will be forthcoming once the fixtures have been announced on Wednesday.
