With the majority of the Latics squad being away in Germany for the past week on a preseason boot camp there has been little to no serious speculation regarding incomings or outgoings, though Uwe Rösler on Wednesday did confirm during an interview with Paul Kendrick of the Wigan Evening Post that we are working hard on targets both here in England and further afield.
For those that haven’t read the interview it can be found here
Some of the names that have been in the mix have now been taken out, AC Milan midfield man Antonio Nocerino has joined Torino on loan, despite strong rumours that the Latics had agreed a deal with Milan.
Rapid Vienna striker Terrence Boyd opted for a move to RB Leipzig who have just been promoted to the second tier of Germany football and are splashing the cash in an attempt to go all the way to the top.
There are a couple more names still in the frame, Sporting Kansas striker Dom Dwyer is one, apparently the Latics want the MLS top scorer now, whilst Kansas are reluctant to let him leave until their season finishes in November, we’ll see on this one.
On the departure side it was interesting to see Grant Holt stay behind when the first team squad jetted off for their boot camp at the beginning of the week, Holt has been left behind to train with the youngsters as Rösler, allegedly, wasn’t impressed with the strikers fitness levels when he returned for preseason and the front man has been given a gruelling schedule to work on and get himself up to speed.
Rumours circulated yesterday (Saturday) that Gary Caldwell could be on his way to Greek football with Panathinaikos, the speculation even featured on the clubs official website and can be read here, though it’s all Greek to me!
As always Vital Latics will bring you the latest transfer speculation and news as and when they happen.
