Latics To Appeal Sammon Red Card

Vital Latics have learned that Wigan Athletic are set to officially appeal the outrageous decision by match referee Phil Dowd to show Conor Sammon a straight red in yesterdays defeat to Manchester United.

Sammon was shielding the ball from Michael Carrick when the Latics man accidentally caught his marker in the face with a finger, although Carrick made nothing of the challenge, Dowd saw fit to race 40 yards, did I say race? Wobble 40 yards to produce the red card in the direction of Sammon, Dowd then proceeded to shrug his shoulders when questioned about the decision by Latics skipper Gary Caldwell.

It was a decision that astounded everyone in the ground and embarrassed Manchester United officials and players when questioned after the game about the incident could only mumble that they thought it was an extremely harsh decision. Say no more.

Shortly before the Sammon dismissal, United defender Antonio Valencia was involved in a similar but more aggressive foul on Latics midfield man Jordi Gomez, result? A free kick to Latics no red, yellow or talking to for Valencia, double standards.

To make matters worse in the build up to Berbatov’s first goal and United’s second just moments after Sammon’s dismissal, the Man U striker used the exact same action to keep Latics defenders at bay as Sammon did to keep Carrick at bay

Will we win the appeal? Dont hold your breath
