Wigan Athletic eased into the 4th round of the FA Cup with a comfortable victory at the KC Stadium against Championship side Hull City, the second year in a row that the Latics have dumped the Tigers out at this stage of the competition.

Roberto Martinez made eight changes from Wednesday nights draw with Bolton and gave first starts to Adrian Lopez at the back and Callum McManaman in attack and it was the young McManaman who made the big impression of the day, he was a constant thorn in to the Hull defence and he helped set up the Latics first goal on 21 minutes.

McManaman produced a deep cross from the Latics right that found Jordi Gomez in the box, his swivel shot was blocked by Hull keeper Matt Duke who parried the ball to the feet of Momo Diame, the Latics midfield man had the simple task of tapping home from six yards.

On 56 minutes the young striker turned from goal maker to goal taker when cutting in from the left, McManaman drifted past four Hull defenders to hit a curling right footed effort into the bottom corner from 20 yards out.

Hull responded on 75 minutes, a deep ball found sub Nick Barmby on the six yard box, the veteran kept his cool and side footed home from a first time effort giving Al-Habsi no chance.

The Hull comeback was over before it began, on 78 minutes Diame played a one-two with Jordi Gomez on the edge of the Hull penalty area, with Matt Duke rushing out Diame coolly lifted the ball over the Hull keeper and into the back of the net.

Hull pulled another goal back right at the death when Barmby grabbed his second of the game, getting between Robinson and Boyce to head home, but it was too little too late and the Latics were through to round four.
