It is being reported in Spain that Wigan Athletic have tabled a bid of ?4 million for Hércules CF and Paraguay striker Nelson Valdez.

The Latics were linked with a move for the Paraguay international last season whilst he was with German club Borussia Dortmund, but he opted for a move to Spain and newly promoted Hércules CF, unfortunately for Valdez his new club have had a troubled season and been relegated from La Liga though the player himself forged a good partnership with David Trezeguet and managed to score 8 goals in 25 appearances.

Valdez is currently away on international duty with Paraguay in the Copa America so any deal would be on hold until the tournament finishes or at least Paraguay’s involvement, but it is understood that Hércules CF have in fact declined the Latics bid and are holding out for ?5 million, which is written into Valdez’s contract as a release clause.

There are other clubs interested, Getafe and Espanyol both registered their interest but are reluctant to meet the asking price, whilst Russian club FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk are also keeping an eye on the situation with Valdez.
