Wigan Athletic have signed Manchester United midfield man Tom Cleverley on a season long loan.

The 20 year old is highly rated at Old Trafford and boss Alex Ferguson was said to be keen for the youngster to go out on loan and get some Premier league experience, both Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle United were vying to take the youngster but Latics boss Roberto Martinez has stolen in and won the race bringing the England Under 21 international to the DW Stadium.

Cleverley spent last season out on loan at Championship club Watford making 33 appearances and scoring 11 goals for the Hornets, he made such a big impression that he was named Watford`s player of the season
