No need to scramble for your old goalie gloves, guys – we’ve found a keeper for Friday!

Brighton’s Christian Walton has signed a 12-month loan deal that’ll keep him at the DW Stadium until May 2018. The 21 year-old has significant League One and Two experience, having spent time on loan at Bury, Plymouth, Luton and Southend United since 2015.

Serendipitously, he actually made his first Football League appearance for Brighton against Wigan Athletic in November 2014. He was named man of the match as the Seagulls beat Latics 1-0 at the Amex Stadium.

The Cornwall-born keeper has risen through the England youth ranks from Under 19 through to Under 20 and Under 21. He made his debut at U21 level in October 2016, keeping a clean sheet in a 5-0 win over Bosnia Herzegovina.

It was today confirmed that Walton had signed a new four-year deal with Brighton. Manager Chris Hughton immediately announced that ‘Christian will go out on loan again this season, as he is at a stage in his career where he needs to be playing regular football to continue the excellent progress he has made.’

And his first stop is Wigan Athletic, so you can stop with those (admittedly humorous) Bogdan rumours now. Nosey Barstool, I’m looking at you…
