Latics game against SC Wiedenbruck on Tuesday has been cancelled, the club will now hold an open training session instead at a location near to their base camp in Germany.

Latics boss Uwe Rösler said that he felt it ‘would stretch the squad a little too much’ and that the ‘risk was too high to lose a player before the beginning of our new campaign.’ Understandable with the current crop of injuries and the break will now give the squad the chance to build up their fitness levels ahead of Friday nights game against SC Paderborn.

“I read the article and thought we really do have the best club in the world….”

Speaking to the Latics Official website Rösler relayed how the club was putting the open training session on for the travelling supporters to help ease their disappointment, he said – ‘Obviously we feel for the supporters who have travelled this far and if anyone wants to come, they will be made very welcome.’

Latics say that there will be opportunities to meet the players after training and have autographs and photographs with the players and staff.

A statement on Latics Official reads:

The session will take place at the team hotel near Gutersloh, and the exact time and address will be confirmed as soon as we are able to make the announcement.
