Wigan’s first home game of the League One season has been put back exactly 24 hours.

The match with Bury will now kick off at 3pm on Sunday 13 August 2017 due to the Shakers’ Caribou Cup tie with Sunderland on Thursday 10 August. That game will be televised, so Latics’ coaching staff will be able to swot up on Bury’s tactics with a steaming hot cup of beef beverage and fluffy bunny slippers. That’s always the best way to research your opponents, I find.

The news follows confirmation that Latics’ own Caribou Cup match against Blackpool at the DW Stadium will be played at 7:45pm on Tuesday 8 August. Tickets for that game, priced at £10 for adults, £5 for under-18s and £2 for under-5s, will be on sale at a later date.

However, we very much doubt you’d be able to smuggle your armchair, extra large mug and pink slippers past security at the turnstiles for that particular game.

We suggest that further matches may be shifted for television and other bizarre reasons, so carry a jumbo marker with your fixtures card at all times to make emergency adjustments as they are announced.

There’s nothing worse than turning up at the DW Stadium and screaming at sprinklers for five minutes before realising they’re not actually players, and the football match you seek has been moved to another day altogether. An easy enough mistake to make, but a potentially embarrassing one.
