Wigan Athletic are being linked with two goalkeepers as Latics boss Roberto Martinez widens his search as he looks to bolster his options between the posts.
The keepers in question are former Germany international Timo Hildebrand who is a free agent following his release from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim and Albion Rovers young shot stopper Derek Gaston.
Hildebrand who is 31 made his name at Stuttgart where he made 221 appearances before signing for Valencia but he couldn`t settle in Spain and the 7 times capped Germany international moved back to the Bundesliga 18 months later when he joined Hoffenheim.
According to reports both the Latics and Premier League rivals Fulham are interested in Hildebrand with his agent Martin Stopper saying the keeper would welcome a move to England.
Stopper said: ‘He is very keen to challenge himself in the English game, Hildebrand feels the time is right to play in the Premier League.’
Meanwhile Latics interest in young keeper Gaston has been revealed to the press by his manager at Albion Rovers Paul Martin who says that along with Martinez, Watford, Motherwell, Hamilton and Rangers have all had a look at his player
Martin told the press: ‘Wigan and Watford had a look as did Motherwell and Hamilton.
‘Rangers watched him last season and have renewed their interest.’
