Wigan Athletic are keeping tabs on Peterborough target, Derry City wide man James McClean according to the Irish clubs chairman Philip O’Doherty.

The 22 year old was thought to be on his way to Championship club Peterborough only for the deal to falter at the last minute, O’Doherty told the Derry Journal that the Latics have been asked to be kept informed of any developments and the players agent is doing just that.

O’Doherty said: ‘The club and Peterborough had agreed a package but it has broken down due to personal terms’

‘But sometimes these things seem like they’ve broken down when they haven’t.

‘Wigan, even though they haven’t made a formal offer, are interested and being kept up to date by the agent.

‘Wigan had expressed a serious interest in James, they spent a lot of time checking him out and they may well rekindle their interest now N’Zogbia’s gone.’

McClean has made 73 appearances for Derry, scoring 18 goals. He is also a Northern Ireland under 21 international.
