Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed that the club are in talks with Hugo Rodallega’s agent about extending his contract which is set to expire at the end of the season.

January is approaching fast and regulations allow players who are out of contract in the summer to negotiate with ‘other’ clubs and sign pre-contract agreements, so allowing the Colombia international the possibility of leaving the Latics for nothing come July 2012.

Serie A side Juventus are, according to Rodallega, interested in signing him at the end of the season, Martinez is obviously desperate to tie his main man down to a new deal and therefore sorting out the dilemma before the new transfer window opens in just over six weeks time

Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post Martinez said: ‘We have been talking with Hugo for a long time and it’s something we need to sort out’

‘His agent has been over in Colombia which has made things difficult but he’ll be visiting here shortly.

‘Once we can get everyone together, I really don’t think it’ll be very difficult to find a solution.

‘It’s important we don’t get to January without knowing where we are, though, because we need to have as much stability as we can at the football club.”
