Latics boss Uwe Rösler has taken his squad off to Germany for the final preparations ahead of the new seasons big kick off on 9th August.

The Latics will play three friendlies whilst away, first up is Bundesliga 2 side Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday 26th, SC Wiedenbruck from the German equivalent of our League 2 will be the opponents on Tuesday 29th and the final game of the tour will be against another Bundesliga 2 side SC Paderborn on Friday 1st August.

The main purpose of the tour though is to get the players up to speed fitness wise ahead of the new season, also with six new additions to the squad and the strong rumour that there will be at least one more coming in this week, it is important for the squad to gel and get that ‘togetherness’ that will be so important if we are to launch a serious promotion push.

This is the second time this preseason of course that the Latics have been to Germany, they were there for the intense stuff at the start of July when it was work, work, work, this visit will be honing in the fitness and the tactical aspects of Rösler’s style, especially for the new players to get to grips with his high pressing, high energy style of play. With the first Championship game of the new season against Reading just two weeks away, things are getting serious and exciting.
