When Wigan Athletic face Aston Villa tomorrow it will be the first time in 100 games that the Latics haven`t had a Honduras international in their starting line-up.

With both Maynor Figueroa and Hendry Thomas missing through suspension, the Catrachos wont be represented in this little corner of the North West of England for the first time in the best part of three years.

The original link with Honduras came with the singing of ‘El Mago` himself, Wilson Palacios, back in January 2008 and suddenly a bond was made that saw Hondurans everywhere become honorary Wiganers.

Maynor Figueroa was the next to join the Latics, also in January 2008 and Hendry Thomas became a Latic in July 2009 following a wrangle with his work permit delaying his arrival by a full year.

Unfortunately Palacios moved on to Spurs in 2009 but by then the Honduras-Wigan link was already forged, giving the Latics many fans in Latin America and around 3pm on Saturday afternoons there are large gatherings around TV screens in homes and bars from the capital Tegucigalpa to Choluteca in the south and Atlántida in the north.

Speaking about the record Latics boss Roberto Martinez commented: ‘It is going to be the first time after 99 games in the Premier League we won’t have representative of Honduras. That’s some stat.”

It is some stat, I wonder if we`ll still be the main attraction on Honduras TV`s tomorrow afternoon?
