Latics 0-0 Liverpool

Latics earned another point with one of the so called Premier League big boys following on from the draw with Chelsea on Saturday, when Liverpool were sent back up the East Lanc`s Road with their metaphoric tail between their metaphoric legs and their bottom lip most definitely trailing on the floor.

The pre-match talk surrounded Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, but I`ll leave that to others to discuss, as far as during the game Suarez was quiet though he was involved in winning a penalty for the visitors when his overhead kick struck the outstretched hand of Gary Caldwell.

Martinez stuck with the same starting eleven for the third game in a row, but in the opening stages they looked a little unsure with some nervous passing across the back line and almost let Liverpool in. Ali was excellent between the sticks and made good saves from Jordan Henderson, Martin Skrtel, Dirk Kuyt and Glen Johnson. The Latics settled though and started to put some authority down in midfield, a fantastic passing move ended with a great Momo Diame shot that hit the side netting.

Victor Moses went on a great run, tearing through the Liverpool team before unleashing a venomous shot from 25 yards that Reina beat away.

The second half saw Ali expertly tip a Suarez free kick over the bar before the Oman international really earned is corn with a fabulous save from Charlie Adam`s fiercely struck penalty on 50 minutes.

The Latics looked dangerous when going forward, Rodallega went close with a header that was deflected behind by Glenn Johnson and Victor Moses should have scored when instead he prodded wide of the far post with the goal at his mercy right at the death.

Overall a good performance, the unbeaten run stretched to three games and just one defeat in the last six, most importantly the performances of late have been top class.

Great battling display from the boys, put the same performances in week in week out and we will be ok, but we still need a good goalscorer. ps keep the whiskey flowing at half time worbo
