Wigan Athletic goalkeeper is to be assessed by the England medical team ahead of Wednesdays game against France in Paris following the injury scare he suffered against Blackburn on Saturday.

Latics boss Steve Bruce said ‘We think he’ll be okay, I don’t think it’s anything so serious but we will have to see how he is in the next 24-48 hours and I’m sure England will assess the situation.’

Kirkland hit the ground hard after catching a cross under a challenge, at first it appeared that he was merely winded but he received lengthy treatment before he was able to continue and its been suggested that he suffered a back muscle spasm.

Kirkland has been in fine form recently and he`s put his injury plagued past behind him lets hope that this is just a little scare and that the big shot stopper will be able to earn another cap on Wednesday.
